Medical Scheduling Clerks (MSCs) primarily schedule nurses or medical staff for shifts, often in a hospital setting. Scheduling clerks may also organize department bookings like operating room and bed scheduling. MSCs can also have a role in communicate care, for example booking homecare services or like post-operative care. MSCs are proficient with terminology, scheduling software and common computer programs like Microsoft Word and Excel. This program is a shorter credential related to the Medical Office Administrator program so graduates of the MSC program can transfer their earned credits towards a Medical Office Administrator if they choose to upgrade their skills further.
The MSC program at Ridge Meadows College is a one semester, 14 credit program that consists of seven courses and prepares students for new-hire exams generally required by BC health authorities.
