Will this program help me gain employment in the construction industry?
Yes, RMC has years of experience successfully offering this program to contract training vendors taught by industry professionals.

When entering the construction industry, there are basic skill set requirements that employers are looking for such as: safety first attitude, math, communication, time management and problem-solving skills.  Our instructors ensure that among other things, these basic skills are taught and consistently applied throughout the program so that students reach their potential and realize success.

What kind of “practical hands on” experience will I get in class?
As our program is taught in building blocks, putting to practice skills taught in class is key in the learning process to be successful. Students will build and be evaluated on projects such as sheds, picnic tables and bed frames.

What are the benefits of taking this course?
Basic knowledge!  Starting a new career is exciting but can also feel a bit overwhelming at first.  Our instructors are well versed in the industry and their goal is to ensure that students learn the basic core construction skills so that on the first day of work, they’re knowledgeable, understand the importance of workplace safety, are confident and motivated to succeed.

Is there payment support for students?
Yes, a payment plan is available through Ridge Meadows College.  Once your application is submitted, our office will contact you with details.

I have no trade experience but am interested in working in this field.  Should I still consider this program?
Absolutely!  Everyone has transferrable skills, that are valuable and essential in any workplace environment.  The key is to build on existing skills, learn new ones  and keep an open mind to new and exciting opportunities.

What do I need to bring to class?
Students are required to have CSA approved steel toe boots.  They should be lace up style and high enough to provide support against ankle injury (please note:  steel toe shoes and non CSA approved boots will not be permitted in class for safety reasons).  Students will also need to bring their own carpentry belt, safety vest and a hard hat (CSA approved).
