Job Posting
Pitt Meadows United Church
Summer Administrative Position
Pitt Meadows United Church has received a Canada Summer Employment grant to hire a student who has been at school or university and is planning to return to school or university in September and is between the ages of 15 and 30 years.
PMUC is a progressive congregation of the United Church of Canada. In addition to providing pastoral services to a congregation of approximately 50 members, we are an open-minded and caring church and welcome any members of the community who wish to attend or participate in any activities. The church provides additional outreach to the community through a variety of spiritual practice offerings and the congregation’s outreach team contributes to other community organizations, such as Salvation Army, Recovery Centre, and First United Church. The congregation is also committed to acts of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, particularly the Katzie nation, and to strive to understand the impacts of colonization and residential schools. The church also maintains a presence at other community events, through congregation members attending and volunteering, such as Remembrance Day, Pitt Meadows Days, and Pride Celebrations.
This posting is for an administrative position, doing a wide variety of tasks and projects to help advance our work in community. One such project is to take action on more effectively communicating about that work, through social media and direct contact with other not-for-profits in our community. We are also interested to evaluate the impact of our projects, through focus groups and evaluation tools. Research may be required to support members of the congregation in making presentations. The position will work with church members and committees, as well as liaising with ministers providing the church with services. The successful candidate may be asked to provide research on topics for church services or spiritual practices the congregation may be interested to undertake.
The work week will be 35 hours per week and flexibility may be required for hours so that weekend or evening events can be accommodated. The hourly wage is $21.75, with tax and other federal and provincial employment requirements deducted. The work site will be the office of PMUC at 12109 Harris Road, Pitt Meadows, BC.
Candidates for the position must have experience in working in organizations and appreciate the need to work in a consultative and collaborative way. Candidates must also have experience working with social media and more than rudimentary technological abilities. Candidates must have completed at least first year of post-secondary education and be excellent communicators – good listeners as well as good speakers and writers. Candidates should be able to demonstrate administrative skills such as keeping records, organizing materials, assembling reports, and arranging events. Experience with a church organization would be an asset as would any theological training.
Candidates should submit a resume of experience and a covering letter explaining your interest in the position by email to pmcommunityactions@gmail.com. To be considered, all applications must be received by noon on Friday, May 10, 2024. Only those applicants selected for interview will be contacted.
