Aboriginal Early Childhood Educator – Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society

Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society (LFVAS) is accepting applications for an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) for the Aboriginal Head Start preschool opening in Aldergrove. Head Start is an all-day culturally-supportive child care environment for children aged 3-5, delivering holistic teachings that are culturally relevant to ensure a sense of belonging and well-being, respecting and honouring every child’s spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical growth. 

The ECE will work within a team environment to guide and care for children using a strength-based approach, facilitating safe, play-based intentional learning in accordance with the Aboriginal Head Start curriculum. 

TERM: Starting April 2022 

HOURS OF WORK: 27.5 – 35 hours per week 

WORK LOCATION: Aldergrove 

COMPENSATION: $25.35 – $28.05/hour, commensurate with education and experience Flexible health & wellness spending account Staff development allowance and paid education leave Self-directed matching savings plan after one year 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Early Childhood Educator Certificate with current license to practice required
  • Infant Toddler Educator or Special Needs Educator certificate is an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the provision of service to children is preferred 
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid with CPR/AED Level B (Infant/Child) 
  • Food Safe Certificate 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and use Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel and Outlook 
  • Ability to perform tasks involving moderate physical activity in working at a preschool, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling and lifting of children, toys and equipment 
  • Ability to show empathy and bond effectively with children and their families 
  • Must have Aboriginal cultural agility and understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal traditions and issues impacting on urban Aboriginal families 
  • Must be able to work in a team setting, take direction, and be willing to mentor assistants and volunteers 
  • Must successfully complete Criminal Record Review for work with children and vulnerable adults
